Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! It is an honor to begin another wonderful year as principal of Moffitt Elementary School and have the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of students, parents and dedicated educators. We are looking forward to a productive school year, full of opportunities and rich learning experiences. All of us at Moffitt want to make this a successful year for your child.   I am confident that together, we will be able to provide a quality education that enables students to become productive, responsible, and college and career ready citizens.

The first day of school is Thursday, August 17, 2017. School begins at 7:55 a.m. Please note that the first day of school is a minimum day and all students will be dismissed at 12:40 p.m.

Our Kindergarten Round-up will take place on Wednesday, August 16th at 10:30 a.m. in the MPR. This will be a great opportunity for you and your child to meet and greet your child’s teacher, visit his/her classroom and learn more about our program.

Classroom assignments will be posted outside the school on the MPR door after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16th. Every effort was made to create classes that are balanced and beneficial to all students. In order to maximize balanced classes, changes or teacher requests will not be permitted. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Our schedule for the 2017-2018 school year is as follows:

M/T/TH/F: 7:55 a.m. – 2:12 p.m.

Wednesdays: 7:55 a.m. – 12:40 p.m.

Gates will open Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m. Students will not be permitted on campus prior to 7:30 a.m. Students who eat breakfast at school will be allowed into the eating area at 7:30 a.m. and are to line up for class when finished eating. Students who do not eat breakfast at school are expected to line up at the poles upon arrival at school. All students should be in their class line by 7:50 a.m. when the first bell rings.  Parents may walk their students to their line, but are not permitted in the hallways and must exit the campus by 7:50 a.m. when the first bell rings. The second bell rings at 7:55 a.m. to signal the beginning of the instructional day. Students should be in their classrooms ready to start the day at this time.

Consistent school attendance and punctuality is essential for your child’s success in school. Attendance and tardy problems hinder your child’s progress and sends the message that school is not important. To help us provide your child with the best education possible, please ensure that your child attends school daily and arrives on time. If your child is absent, please call the school office or write a note explaining the reason for the absence. Excessive absences and/or tardies will trigger the SART/SARB process.

We will continue to maintain our uniform policy in grades K-5. Appropriate dress improves student behavior, eliminates outside influences, and supports learning. In order to maximize learning for all students, we expect that all students be dressed in accordance with the following uniform guidelines:

  • Solid white or navy blue shirt/blouse (collared, no logos) and/or Moffitt spirit shirts
  • Navy blue pants, shorts, skirt, skorts, or dark colored jeans
  • White or navy blue sweater, sweatshirt or jacket
  • Closed-toe shoes that allow for participation in physical education

On Wednesdays, students may wear their favorite college t-shirt and/or sweatshirt for College Day. On Fridays, students may wear their Moffitt t-shirt and/or sweatshirt for Moffitt Spirit Day.

This year will be exciting, busy, and hopefully very rewarding for all of our students. We want you to join us in making school a great experience, as parents are a vital part of the educational process. Together we can ensure that our children are provided a safe, innovative and excellent learning environment.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact the school or your child’s teacher. We also encourage you to visit our school website at for information and announcements. I look forward to working with you and your child this year!

Best regards,

Rachel Garcia
